Announcing Schola Our High School Summer Program

Thank you Rolando Rivas for sharing! I am pleased to let you know about our new summer program just for High School Students. Our Assistant Dean of Academic Affairs and our Program Director Dr. Stephen Shivone wrote the letter below inviting your students to this great opportunity! I've attached the letter in case you want to share this with other friends and family. I hope you're having a great new year. God Bless, Rolando Rivas ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~~ ~ ~~ ~ ~ Dear Student, I am very pleased to tell you about Schola, an exciting new high school summer program at Belmont Abbey College taking place July 16 – 23, 2017. Schola offers a unique opportunity to rising high school juniors and seniors to spend an elevating and revitalizing week engaged in a rich schedule of academic, cultural, and recreational activities centered on lively seminars discussing several of the great books of the Western world. While living on Belmont Abbey’s beautiful, historic campus in North Carolina, attendees will enjoy a balanced mix of reading, seminars, relaxation, and conviviality. Mornings and early afternoons are devoted to small group seminars discussing works by masters of the Western intellectual tradition, including Plato, Shakespeare, Homer, St. Augustine, and Boethius. Outside of class, participants enjoy daily sports and social events, visits to the celebrated Mint Museum in Charlotte, a staged reading of a Shakespeare play, hiking in the nearby Appalachian Mountains, white water rafting at the U.S. National White Water Center in Charlotte, as well as other social and recreational activities. The program also offers opportunities for spiritual growth, including daily Mass and opportunities for periods of prayer and recollection. Join us . . . for this retreat from ordinary life, for a week away from home and the summer routine, for an interval for contemplation, conversation, friendship, and fun. For more information, please visit the Belmont Abbey College website at If you have any questions, feel free to contact me at 704-461-6831 or Thank you and God bless, Stephen Shivone, Ph.D., Schola Program Director Assistant Dean of Academic Affairs and Assistant Professor of English
