Revolutionary Charlotte explores Colonial Life and the American Revolution in the Backcountry of North Carolina. Students become reporters and gather information from residents to better understand how the people of Mecklenburg lived during the war, how they passed secret messages, and some of the causes behind the war. This program is designed to give homeschool students a chance to bring the larger history of the American Revolution down to a local level to better understand the experiences of individual people during a time of conflict. Through a series of crafts, discussions, and a tour of the historic Hezekiah Alexander home site, students get a feel for what it would have been like if they had lived through this period of our nation’s history.
