USS North Carolina Field Trip from North Carolinians for Home Education (NCHE) - Oct. 25, 2018

From the NCHE Website:

"USS North Carolina Field Trip

Join NCHE on the USS North Carolina, Wilmington, NC, on Thursday, October 25!
The Battleship North Carolina is an authentically restored World War II battleship, moored across the river from downtown Wilmington.  At the time of her commissioning in 1941, she was considered the world’s greatest sea weapon. She participated in every major naval offensive in the Pacific during World War II.
Our self-guided, self-pace tour begins in the visitors center by watching the introductory movie and looking at exhibits.  Then, proceed on-board where we will be permitted to visit nine decks and experience the ship the way her sailors did:  relax in the mess hall, try out a berth, visit the engine room and bridge.  You will even be permitted to try your hand with “the big guns!”   On average, visitors spend at least two hours exploring, but feel free to stay longer, remembering that the ship closes at 5 p.m.
For kindergarten and older, we have arranged an optional special tour called “Ship Speaks” which focuses on shipboard communications. The program takes place in the Marine Compartment that the Marines shared with the signalmen. Students will enjoy hands-on learning about communications methods used aboard during World War II: semaphore signals, Morse code, vintage typewriters, working rotary dial phones and sound-powered phones, creating their own stencils and more. Tickets for these sessions will be available while supply lasts.  See price and registration info below; Ship Speak tickets only available with purchase of general admission.
Pre-registration and payment is required by Monday, October 22.  Registrations are transferable but non-refundable.
