Spring Home School Days at Daniel Stowe Botanical Garden 2019 ~ Pre-registration is required!

A message from Pam Keller, Youth Programs Manager at DSBG:

"Happy New Year!  I hope everyone had an enjoyable Holiday Season!

We are beginning to prepare for our Spring Home School Day at Daniel Stowe Botanical Garden!  Due to an overwhelming response to our Fall event, we are now offering the programming over 2 days!  Please find all the details below.

The event is scheduled for March 27th & 28th from 9:00-12:30.  Pre-registration online is required at https://www.dsbg.org/homeschool-days/

Objective:  “Dig in to investigate the basics of herb and veggie gardening.  Students will learn about different types of soil, plant choice, caring for and maintaining a home garden.  Designed to capture curiosity and enhance the learning process.”

There will be 6 stations set up throughout the Garden, each focusing on a different learning objective.

  1. Garden Perfect Soil
    • How to prepare soil for a garden.
    • Students will prepare a container for seed planting at Station 3.
  2. Creative Composting
  3. The Zone Factor
    • What herbs/veggies grow best in our zone?
    • Students will plant a seed in the container created at Station 1.
  4. Beneficial Bugs
    • Each student will receive ladybugs for their home garden.
  5. “Bee” Protective
    • Why bees are important to an ecosystem.
    • Why bees are endangered.
    • How we can protect bees.
  6. The Life Story of Leaves Continued

Cost for this event is $8/first student, $5/each additional student and $12/adult (must be from the same household).  Please register online at https://www.dsbg.org/homeschool-days/.  Please register early as spots fill up quickly!

Students will be given a passport which they will have stamped upon completion of the activity at each of the 6 stations.  Students can bring their completed passport to the registration desk to receive a free gift!  Also, families may enter a drawing for a complimentary Family Membership to the Garden.

Please do not hesitate to contact me should you have any questions or need additional information!

Thank you!
